One Body One Spirit
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (WPCU) takes place each year from 18 to 25 January. This year's theme, based on Ephesians 4 v 1-13, reminds us that the call to unity is a call to work for peace for all people everywhere.
Each day during WPCU a church in Welling will host an ecumenical service, according to its tradition, and invite all Christians from the area to come along to pray and worship together.
The services will be held as follows:
Sunday 18 January: 6.30pm at St John’s Church, Welling
Monday 19 January: TBC
Tuesday 20 January: 7.30pm at Wellspring Church
Wednesday 21 January: 10.00am at St Michael’s Church
Thursday 22 January: 10.00am at Welling Methodist Church
Friday 23 January: 10.00am at St Stephens’s Roman Catholic Church
Saturday 24 January: 10.00 at Bishop Ridley Church, Falconwood.
Saturday 25 January: TBC
These ecumenical celebrations provides an opportunity to focus our prayers on Christian unity and to know that we are joining with international siblings in Christ.
This year WPCU takes Ephesians 4 v 1-13 as its central text which includes the words “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” (Ephesians 4:4). The World Council of Churches prayers and reflections for WPCU 2026 have been prepared by the faithful of the Armenian Apostolic (Orthodox) Church, along with their brothers and sisters of the Armenian Catholic and Evangelical Churches. These resources draw upon centuries-old traditions of prayer used by the Armenian people, along with hymns that originated in the ancient monasteries and churches of Armenia, some of which date as far back as the fourth century.
